Giving Thanks To God

Thanksgiving is here.

Thanksgiving is a national holiday in the United States, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.[1] It originated as a harvest festival. Thanksgiving has been celebrated nationally on and off since 1789, with a proclamation by George Washington after a request by Congress.[2] .

Lincoln proclaimed a national day of "Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens," to be celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November.[3][4]

The event that Americans commonly call the "First Thanksgiving" was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in the New World in October 1621.[5] This feast lasted three days, and—as accounted by attendee Edward Winslow[6]—it was attended by 90 Native Americans and 53 Pilgrims.[7]

The New England colonists were accustomed to regularly celebrating "thanksgivings"—days of prayer thanking God for blessings such as military victory or the end of a drought.[8]

The nations original purpose for Thanksgiving Day, was to thank God for blessings.

Even then, they knew who to give thanks too and when to give thanks.

The Joe and I can relate to the Pilgrims back in 1621. As 90% of our Thanksgiving dinner and our daily food will come from the harvest of our new land in Florida our Lord has provided.

Philippians 4:19

19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

Back then most people grew their own food.

I look today at most people during "Holidays" like, Thanksgiving and Christmas. They spend most of their time and money gathering food and things to celebrate, a day. Some go into debt because of it, causing emotional stress and financial strain for months to come. Wouldn't that nullify the "joy" of the holiday? Joe and I no longer go to that extent.

Psalm 1:1-3

1 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither whatever they do prospers.

If you have, everything or nothing, be thankful to God.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV) – “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 107:1 (NIV) -“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.”

Here is something to be thankful for daily:

Romans 15:13 NIV

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

What are you thankful for??

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

BE BLESSED!!
